The American Heart Association (AHA) is seeking a college-level, communications student to serve in their Overland Park office for the spring 2014 semester. This on-the-job training will allow the student to obtain valuable, practical field experience relative to his/her area of academic study and to gain understanding of the job skills necessary to be successful in a non-profit, community-based environment.
The communications function reaches across the Association business groups in support of the mission and the programs/events specific to the work of the AHA. Student interns will learn about media relations that involve: outreach to the press to pitch AHA stories, copywriting and editing, basic web site content updates such as writing copy and selecting images, and photo and video opportunities at events, among others. The marketing function is broad and varied and will involve developing marketing campaigns, event planning and research.
